Free installation and test run:

  1. Download

    lcm-64.tar ( 11Mbyte) (for most 64-bit systems)
    or
    lcm-32.tar (7.4Mbyte) (for 32-bit and 64-bit systems)

If you are unsure, download and install lcm-64.tar. If you quickly get an error message like "No such file or directory" or "Cannot execute binary file" or "Kernel too old" during installation, then uninstall with $HOME/.uninstall-lcmodel and then download and install lcm-32.tar.

  2. Open a terminal and install and test the package with the two commands:
       tar xf lcm-??.tar
       ./install-lcmodel
where ?? is 64 or 32. Note that the last command starts with a dot.

(If you get an error message about not being able to open or connect to your display, then click here.)
Chapter 4 of the User's Manual has more information on installation and displaying the results.

  3. Your test-run results should be similar to PLOTs 1-4 in the documentation (and fairly similar to the 2007 result).

Documentation

The User's Manual (in $HOME/.lcmodel/doc/manual.pdf) is a full reference manual (184 pages), and most users only need to read a small part of it (as outlined in the overview in Section 1.1). Chapter 4 explains the test runs in detail. Also print out $HOME/.lcmodel/doc/figures.pdf (29 pages), and bind it separately from the manual. If possible, print both in duplex mode (both sides of a sheet).

Analyzing your data

To start a new LCMgui session, you enter
   cd $HOME/.lcmodel
   ./lcmgui
(Note that the last command starts with a dot. Section 7.2.2 of the manual specifies how you can easily reduce these two commands to simply lcmgui.)
Follow the steps in LCMgui to select your file to be analyzed.
